Mental Health Skill-Building

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Level 2.1

Services Offered: Diagnostic assessments, individual counseling, comprehensive care/discharge planning and referrals for additional services. To accomplish our mission, we provide goal directed Mental Health Skill-Building training in the following core areas: 

  • Monitoring health, nutrition and physical condition
  • Activities of daily living
  • Functional skills and appropriate behavioral training related to health and safety
  • Use of community resources
  • Assistance with medication management


Eligibility Criteria: Demonstrates a clinical necessity for the service arising from a condition due to mental, behavior, or emotional illness, which results in insignificant functional impairments with major life activities. 

  • Requires help with basic living skills
  • Prior history of psychiatric hospitalization, residential or non-residential crisis stabilization, ICT or PACT services, psychiatric residential treatment facility, or temporary detention order
  • Prescribed antipsychotic, mood stabilizing, or antidepressant medications within the 12 months prior to assessment date

Has one of the following as a primary Axis 1 diagnosis: 

  • Schizophrenia or other psychotic disorder
  • Major Depressive Disorder-Recurrent
  • Bipolar I or Bipolar II
  • Any other Axis 1 mental health disorder within the past year


Individuals 18 years of age or older must meet all of the above criteria and be in an independent living situation or transitioning into an independent living situation within six months.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Level 2.1

The focus of New Alliance Family Service’s co-occurring enhanced substance abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SA IOP) of services is to provide integrative treatment to adults diagnosed with primary substance use disorders (SUD’s) and co-existing mental illness diagnoses. Available 3 days/week in an outpatient office/group treatment setting. ASAM Level 2.1 services shall require 3 hours/day (9-19 hours/week) of clinical treatment programming throughout the community reintegration phase of early recovery. 


Through a multi-disciplinary team of qualified Credentialed Addiction Treatment Professionals (CATP’s), NAFS ASAM Level 2.1 programs provide a highly structured but individualized program of skilled treatment services. The program utilizes evidenced based, person-centered, and strengths-based approaches, including but not limited to: 

  • Drug and Alcohol Education
  • Risks and Triggers
  • Self Awareness and Self Esteem
  • Dealing with Guilt and Grief
  • Self Care
  • Committing to Change
  • Recovery During the Holidays
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making
  • Negative Emotions
  • Relationships in Recovery
  • Stress, Trauma, and Emotional Well-being
  • Relapse Presentation Planning
